<研究ノート>一九世紀以前の那覇を描いた俯瞰的絵図の基礎研究 : 年代・構図・系譜

Abstract

Twelve bird's-eye-view pictures of Naha 那覇, the international port of medieval and modern Ryukyu 琉球, are examined bibliographically in order to promote further study of the historical geography of the trade networks in the East China Sea. Reexamination of the autographs, seals, and changes in landscape representation shows that the pictures were created between the eighteenth and early twentieth century and executed under the influence of earlier works. The study also shows their origin dates back to In Gen-Ryo 殷元良 (1718-1767), a painter associated with the Ryukyu court. The dominant compositional element that was typical in the work of In Gen-Ryo's and other Ryukyuan painters was a view of the ocean from the land, emphasizing the prosperous international port, whereas several works by Japanese painters focused on Shuri 首里 castle as seen from out at sea.
