抄録: This paper is a brief survey of a history of teaching and learning of geometry in secondary education in Japan from the 1870s to the 1920s. Geometry was regarded as the science which treats of the properties of the space and as a subject suitable for mental discipline, and Eu-clidean geometry was taught in the normal way. Dairoku Kikuchi made great efforts to draw up the syllabus of geometry and to improve the teaching of geometry in the last two decades of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century.
