和算の環円図形に関連する外国由来の文様について (The study of the history of mathematics 2016)

Abstract

Ajima Naonobu (1732-1798) studied the quantitative relationship on Steiner Chain in Wasan. He pursued the figures on circles which contact with one after another. We showed that Ajima's figures correspond to crest of family, trademark of shops, and picture of kimono. We raised the hypothesis that Ajima researched the establishment conditions in the design of crest and picture of kimono At first in this paper, we will show that the roots of such figures are three patterns from foreign countries. From the arrival of them, we will show that Japanese patterns were international at that time and Wasan had been under the influence of foreign culture of patterns beyond borders and language.
