第二次世界大戦末ドイツ数学界に関する一考察 : オーバーヴォルファッハ数学研究所の設立を巡って (The study of the history of mathematics 2016)

Abstract

As the domination of Nazis in Germany from 1933 to 1945 had a tremendous impact on all aspects of German society, so mathematical community was no exception in this regard. In the same way as the period of Nazis was related to the previous and latter Era, mathematical community in Germany also had a close relationship with the previous and latter times and has continued to our times. The most obvious example of this continuity would be Mathematical Research Institute of Oberwolfach (Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach) in Southern Black Forest, which is, so far, regarded as the most important institute in the world. Mathematical Research Institute was established in September 1944, survived post-war Allies' occupation and was highly acclaimed through the West German Era until today. The aim of this paper is to discuss what led to the establishment of this institute in difficult times of the end of the war and how it has been maintained until today.
