<論説>近世銀山の生産の形態と組織 : 院内銀山の研究 (II)

Abstract

十七世紀初期を中心とする貴金属鉱山隆昌期における院内銀山の研究「銀山領有の機構」 (本誌三四の四所収) 「生産の形態と組織」「銀生産の動向」「銀山町の構成」の四章の内、第二章に当る。銀鉱業の過程では、採鉱、選鉱、精錬の工程がある程度まで分業を遂げているが、採鉱は普請、切取、運上稼ぎの順序を経、切取、運上稼ぎにおいて行われる。この過程とそれに関する諸仕法は原則的に当時の諸鉱山に共通したものであり、当時は已に排水坑普請が最も重要なものとなっている。鉱山業者たる山師は選鉱、精錬をも一部経営下におくことが院内では見られ、鉱石商人たる買石に従属するものの外、選鉱、精錬の専業者も成立していた。鉱山稼業の人的組織は山師とそれに従属した諸種の労務者がある。この項では山師の経営法、資本の形態、その蓄積の有無を考え、金子以下労務者の構成、山師との従属関係を述べ、これらの専業的階層が全国的に大規模に発生しつつあることを論じた。しかしここに提起された問題の吟味は院内においては史料の関係上、甚だ不徹底に終り、同時代他の貴金属鉱山史料にはかなりこれを補足し得るものがあり、殊に近世中期以後になれば関係史料も豊富となるから、他日それらの研究の成果を待ち、再び院内のそれを検討し度いと思う。

This article is devoted to the study of the method of production of the Innai Silver Mines of which the all-encompassing description will later be completed. The Innai was, as is well known, one of the most flourishing silver mines under the Shogunate. Here we can see the method of production already elaborated and specialized to some extent. For instance, the mining operation was divided into three processes…those of digging-up, selecting and refining, while the digging operation consited of those processes of framing, cutting-down and conveying. These processes of mining were, as a rule, in common with those of other mines of the day. The processes of selecting and refining the minerals were in part under the control of yamashi, or a mine-manager, in the Innai Mines. And there also started a class of merchants who bought minerals and those skillful hand-workers of selecting and refining. But important were the administrative control of yamashi, the accumulation of capital and labor forces at work upon them. The aim of this article was to investigate those inner relations and to throw a modest light on the crucial problems of the day. Because, such classes of silver-mongers and hand-workers were making rapid apperance all over the country.
