<論説>墨離軍と遼の対西域関係

Abstract

かつて和田清博士は、明代中葉に活躍した北虜の別種乜克力の問題を取扱われた際、唐代、河西節度使管下にあった墨離軍の墨離を以てその前身と解せられることによって、それが既に少くとも唐初より相当に認められた部族なることを指摘され、爾後殆んど千年に近い間、同部族が天山東北端の山地を保持して栄えたことを説かれて、その強靱性と同地方自然の特殊性とに言及せられた。ここで問題となるのは、天宝年間の記事を最后として中国側史料より姿を没した墨離軍が、約二世紀をへだてて、遼の太宗の天顕三年(九二八)に至り、遼軍中の一部隊として出現する事実であり、これは太祖の西征(天賛三年・九二四)と関連づけて考うべきものであるが、その后、会同三年(九四〇)に、「墨離の鶻末里」の西ウィグル遣使の伝えられるのは、遼と西ウィグルの交渉を考える場合、看過しえない。恰もこのころ、後晋より干闐との親善工作が試みられて、干闐への使節は途次、河西諸地域にたいして招撫工作を行ったのであるが、中国側の触手のかくして西方へ伸び行くのに対して、遼側の対西域工作として具体化したのが鶻末里遣使事件ではなかったか。しかも墨離はこの事件を最后として遼側の史料に姿をみせなくなるのであるが、それはそれ自体として問題を投ずるものと考えられるのである。

The theory of Dr. Kiyoshi Wada (和田清) on Mo-li (墨離) is that the tribe forming the Mo-li division under Ho-hsi Tsieh-tushih (河西節度使) at the T'ang (唐) Dynasty is the ancester of Mieh-k'o-li (乜克力), branch of Pei-lu (北虜), active in the middle Ming (明) Dynasty. The origin of this tribe can be traced back to the early T'ang Dynasty, and that the same tribe occupies the northeastern part of the T'ien-shan (天山) ranges because of their tough character and the favorable geographical conditions of the region. Now the description of Mo-li disappears in the historical sources in China after the T'ien-pao (天宝) era, and then it appears as a part of the Liao (遼) army in the history of Liao i. e. in the chronicle of the third year of T'ien-hsien (天顕) (928 A. D.). The latter fact must be connected with the westward expedition of T'ai-tsung (太宗) in the third year of T'ien-tsan (天賛), 924. Then, according to the source on the side of Liao "Ku-mê-li (鶻末里) of Mo-li" and his party are sent to western Kui-ku (ウイグル) as a mission in the third year of Hui-t'ung (会同), 940. This mission must mean a part of Liao's policy toward Hsi-yü (西域) against that of China because the pro-Yu-tien (于闐) of Hou-chi (後晋) is going on and its missions to Yu-tien are, on the way, trying to build up friendly relations in several regions of Ho-hsi (河西) around this time. Moreover, the description of Mo-li ceases here in to appear in the historical sources of Liao.
