<論説>郷土家の家族的周辺

Abstract

藤堂藩の無足人、大和添上郡田原郷の山本平左衛門家の同族ならびに縁者の諸家について紹介するのが本稿の趣旨である。いうまでもなく江戸時代は身分社会であつた。いわゆる士農工商の差別が明かに定められて、それぞれの身分には分相応の生活形態が形成された。従つて婚姻関係も親類附合も、身分に応じて封鎖的に行われたとは、一応認めなければならない。しかしながらここに概略説明する山本家の場合は、元禄を中心とする約半世紀の間、二三世代に亘る家族関係が、平左衛門忠辰の日並私記その他によつて窺われるが、この在郷の侍分の家の周辺には、諸藩の中級武士層をはじめ、春日社の社家、同格の郷士庄屋層および町人と広汎な諸身分があつた。のみならず諸大寺の住僧を出す家筋も多くあつた。享保以後の事情は変化するが、これらの事実によつて、この時代の社会生活、ことに家族関係について改めて検討する手懸りを得たいと期待している。

This article presents the introduction of the Heizaemon Yamamotos, (山本平左衛門), with their friends and relations at Tahara-go, Soegami-gun, Yamato (大和添上郡田原郷), of the Tôdo (藤堂) clan. Certainly the Edo (江戸) era was of the society where the status system existed; it is true that the class distinction stood for the military, agricultural, industrial, and mercantile classes, and each way of living was formed according to each status, generally recognized that marriage and association as relatives were blocked up within each class. In the case of the Yamamotos (山本), however, there were many statuses of samurais of many clans, the gardian family of the Kasuga Shrine (春日社), Gentry of the same status, tradesmen, and also many families who sent priests to the great temples, around the family of this Gentry according to the Hinami-Siki (日並私記) by Heizaemon Tadatatsu (平左衛門忠辰) which recorded the family relations of the Yamamotos (山本), covering over a few generations around the Genroku (元禄) era. We expect reexamination of the social life in this era, especially of the family by these facts, though conditions were changed after the Kyôho (享保) era.
