<研究ノート>中世今堀郷の農民構造と延暦寺

Abstract

中世惣村の典型として著名なこの地域に残っている、今堀日吉神社の納帳・年貢日録帳を分析した結果、登録農民の性格が一五世紀の後半を転機にして変化し、従来の地侍・名主・神官・僧侶の他に、それらとは性格を異にする小農民が、直接貢納責任者として姿を現わし、小農民自立化の傾向が認められること、それに対応して、土地台帳の記載方法の変化のうちに、庄園領主比叡山は延暦寺が、当名主的な存在を設定しながら、くずれ行く名体制の存続をはかつているところの、いわば、なしくずし的な上からの封建化の姿が想定されること、しかし、生産構造それ自体に、特にすぐれたウクラードの存在が推定されないし、「大家・小家」の区別、年寄衆の存在など、多少の階層差はあるにしても、農民相互の身分関係は比較的フラットな、村落共同体が農民的な構成を示していたことなどの諸事実が認めえられる様に思うのである。

This area, known as a representative type of communities, or Sô 惣, in the middle ages, remained keeping the tax-book and land-tax records in the Imabori Shinto Shrine 今堀日吉神社, on examination of which the character of recorded peasants changed about the turning point of the fifteenth century; besides those who were Jizamurai 地侍, myôshu 名主, shinkan 神官 and priest as usual members, another peasants of different character appeared to be persons of direct responsibility for tax-paying. This shows the trend of peasant independing to this change, through the change of the writing method in the land-books, the manorial lord Hieizan 比叡山 tried to keep the survival of the Myô 名 system, by establishing the existence of Tômyôshu 当名主 kind in the Enryakuji Temple, which denotes a gradual feudalization from the upper. The producing structure in itself, however, cannot be supposed of especially splendid Uklad-exis-tence; in spite of some class difference, like distinction between 'Taike' 大家 and 'Shôke' 小家 and the existence of Toshiyorishû 年寄衆, we can recognize the very fact that the personal relations of peasants each other were comparatively flat, and village communities had a peasant constitution.
