<論説>『元和新定書儀』と杜有晋の編する『吉凶書儀』とに就いて

Abstract

中國は周公孔子以來禮樂が重んぜられて政事教育の根幹とせられ、士人階級は幼少時よりその薰陶を受け傳統ある教養階級として社會に雄長し、庶民は無自覺に之に隨從し、南北朝時代など士庶の階級別は厳守された。唐に入りても盛唐時代までは前蹤を受けてゐたが、安祿由の亂以後世が變轉し、士人の教養は漸く低下し初め、商業の旺盛・富力の蓄積を以て社會酌に擡頭し初めたる庶民階級は、家の品位を保持し世の推稱を博せんとし、乃ち書儀方面にて人に笑はれぬ行動を爲さむとする者逐年増加、此の機運に乗じて、書儀の書の編纂が中唐以還徐々に盛行し、特に憲宗皇帝御極時代を中心として模範書簡文の書卽ち書儀の編纂が多く現はれ、往時に士人階級の獨占せし禮法が庶民間に普遍化一般化して弘布せらるる風を生じた。然かるに新舊の兩唐書の藝文志や經籍志に著録せられてゐる書儀の書は夙に殆んど佚亡して久しく之を見るを得ざりしが、敦煌石室より出でし文書の中に書儀の斷簡画多數に現はれた。しかし何れも斷片で著者の名の現はるるは二種しかない。しかも藝文志に著録せらるる唐の社有晋の吉凶書儀上下兩卷が著者名と共に殆ど完本に近い量を以て遺存せることは驚くべきことであり、今にして之を學界に紹介せざれば世界的に永久に消失する虞がある。此の書儀には家族間の尊卑長幼などの身分に應じて使用する熟字に微妙なる差異があり、これこそ高級なる言語文化とも謂ふべきものである。

In China where propriety was taken as an important element of education form ancient times, the Shih-Jên 士人 class educated from their childhood took the important social position as a traditional class of the learned and in the Nan-pê 南北 dynasties discrimination of Shih-shu 士庶 was strictly held. In the T'ang 唐 dynasty the masses who were rising after the An Lu-shan 安禄山 Riot wanted to hold dignity of their family and to attract much attention, and so the compilation of Shu-i 書儀, or books for model correspondence, was popular and propriety which was monopolized by the Shih-jên class was popularized and generarlized among the common people. Almost all the then books were missing, but among the books found in T'un-huang 敦煌 there were two books with the author's name in which Chi-hsiung-shu-i 吉凶書儀 by Tu-you-tsin 杜有晋, two vols., remained almost complete. Delicate difference of idioms used in this book may be called the higher culture of language.
