<論説>歴代宝案について

Abstract

昨年十一月、ハワイ大学東西文化センター、高等研究部における琉球史研究の一として「歴代宝案の解説」を執筆した。そのころ頼永祥氏の歴代宝案の紹介文‘Li-tai-pao-an, A collection of documents on foreign relations of the Ryuku Islands’が発表された。国立台湾大学所蔵抄本「歴代宝案」が昨年中央研究院の手でマイクロフイルムに撮影されて歴史語言研究所伝斯年図書館に保管されることになり、同時に昨年末より本年春にかけて、同じフイルムが数部製作され、ワシントンの国会図書館、ハワイ大学東西文化センター、ハーバァド大学燕京学院、東京東洋文庫、ロンドン大学東洋アフリカ研究所および琉球大学等に配分された。このように歴代宝案は、世界の東洋研究者の一部には注目されてきている。前述の拙稿は英訳されて東西文化センターより出版されるはずであるが、センター当事者の了解を得て、若干の修正を加えて、発表することにした。

Last year in November at the Institute of Advanced Projects of the East-West Center, Hawaii University, I wrote a paper, "Commentary on the Rekidai Hōan", for the Institute's program of research on Ryukyu history. About that time Mr. Lai Yung-Hsiang's introductory paper entitled "Li-tai-pao-an, a collection of documents on foreign relations of the Ryukyu Islands" was also published. An abridgement of the Rekidai Hōan kept in Taiwan National University was put on microfilm by the Academia Sinica of Taiwan last year and given into the custody of the Library of the Institute of History and Philology of the Academia. At the end of last year and during the spring of this year several copies of the microfilm were made and distributed to the Library of Congress in Washington, the University of Hawaii's East-West Center, the Harvard-Yenching Institute at Harvard University, the Toyo Bunko in Tokyo, and the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University, as well as to Ryukyu University. In this way the Rekidai Hōan has gained the attention of some of the world's scholars on the Far East. My paper has been translated into English in preparation for publication at the East-West Center, and with the understanding of the Center administration, I have made some revisions for the purpose of the present article.
