<論説>魏晋南北朝告身雑考 : 木から紙へ

Abstract

魏晋南北朝時代の官史の辞令は、伝来の遺品も、著録された遺文もないので、研究が極めて困難である。漢代の辞令と唐代の辞令に若干の考察を試みた私は、両者の中間に位するこの時代の辞令について、僅かな記事をもととして、そのかげを求めてみた。制度も、文章も伝わってはいないが、まずその手続はどうであったろうか。次に辞令を書きつけた書写材料は何であったろうか。そして、その文体は如何であろうか。この三点を中心に考察を企てたのであるが、少くも、漢代の辞令が木に書かれていたのに、唐代の辞令は紙に書かれている、ということは、魏晋南北朝時代に木から紙へ変ったに違いない。こういう書写材料の変化を中心に、他の二点にも論を及ぼした。自然議論は文化史的な傾きを持ち、制度史的な論点はややおろそかになったが、これは改めて、辞令に限らないで綜合的に考えてみたい。

The study of an official written appointment in Wei-tsin-nan-pê-ch'ao 魏晉南北朝 has been difficult because of lack of the traditional inherited articles or sentences written or composed. The writor, by his analysis on the appointments of the Han 漢 and T'ang 唐 periods, manages to trace some shadow on the appointment of this mediate period form meagre articles. No institution and no sentences were not inherited, but we plan to investigate especially the following three points, at first how its procedure was, and next what material the appointments were written on, and what style its sentence was. At least, the appointment in the Han period was written on wood, while that in T'ang on paper, which denotes the transition of wood to paper in the Wei-tsin-nan-pê-ch'ao. Around this change of writing material, three other points will be treated in this article. Naturally, the discussion has a trend to the cultural history, somewhat neglectful of the aspect of institutional history, the latter of which shall be treated in future collectively.
