作田啓一の社会学的想像力

Abstract

作田啓一は, 生の経験の中にあらわれる非合理性を捉えるための理論体系の構築に一貫して取り組んだ社会学者である. 先行研究では, 彼の生の経験への関心が中心的に論じられてきた. しかし, 作田の特徴は, 生の経験への関心だけでなく, それとは矛盾するように思われがちな体系化への志向性をも兼ね備えている点にあるように思われる. この問題意識に基づき, 本稿では作田の思想における理論の位置づけについて検討する. 本稿では, まず, 『命題コレクション社会学』の付論に注目し, 水平的関係と垂直的関係という二つの関係性を抽出する. 続いて, 現代社会学と小林秀雄に向けた作田の批判を検討し, 批判の要点が, 両者がともに, 現実を水平的/垂直的関係に還元して論じようとする点にあることを明らかにする. 最後に, 作田の犯罪分析を取り上げ, 彼が水平的関係と垂直的関係の両方を論じようとしていたことを指摘する. 以上から, 作田は社会学的な説明(水平的関係)と生の経験(垂直的関係)の二つを結びつけた理論的視座の構築を試みていたことを指摘し, その理論によって一つの「全体」を仮構していたと結論づける.

Keiichi Sakuta is a sociologist who has consistently worked on the construction of social theory to try and understand the irrationality that appearsin experiencesof life. It isoften said that unique experiences of life are inconsistent with abstract theory ; nevertheless, he attempted to integrate them. However, previous studies have discussed only his interest in experiences of life, and little attention has been paid to his intention of constructing theory. This paper focuses on his intention to construct theory and discusses the significance of his doing so to understand experiences of life. First, two concepts in "Collection of Sociological Propositions", horizontal relationship and vertical relationship, are defined. Second, his criticism of contemporary sociology and Kobayashi Hideo are summarized. He claims that from a sociological or Kobayashi's perspective the complexity of the world is reduced to either a horizontal or a vertical relationship. Finally, hisanalys esof atrociouscrimesare reviewed. He attempts to understand irrational crimes from the perspective of both horizontal and vertical relationships. Accordingly, it becomesclear that he hascons tructed a "whole" by connecting the sociological explanation (horizontal relationship) with the irrationality of life (vertical relationship).
