仏教・朱子学・キリスト教の対決 --不干斎ハビアンの改宗--

Abstract

仏教は日本にとってもともと他者であったが, 江戸時代になると, すでに日本と言う風土に定着し, 日本の伝統思想と見做された. 今回直面する課題は, 新たに登場する「他者」, すなわちキリスト教といかに対応するかということである. 日本歴史の重大な転換期に生まれた不干斎ハビアンの思想特質は極めて複雑である. 筆者の分析では, 不干斎ハビアンの思想構造は三段階に分けられる. そのもっとも上層にあるものがキリスト教を通して伝来した新しい「知」と新しい信仰である. さらに, すべてを相対化する禅宗の考えも不干斎ハビアンの思考様式に影響を与えた. しかし, ハビアンの思想深層においてもっとも重要な役割を果たしたものは朱子学的思考様式であると筆者は主張する.

Originally, Buddhism was "the Other" for Japan. By the Edo period, however, Buddhism had taken root in Japan and come to be regarded as part of Japan's intellectual tradition. But now, a new challenge arrived on the horizon : how to deal with a new "Other", i. e. Christianity. Fukan Fabian, who was born into this period of radical historical change in Japanese history, shows a thinking characterized by a high level of complexity. In my view, the composition of Fabian's thought can be divided into three layers. At the surface layer, there was the new knowledge and the new beliefs that came along with the arrival of Christianity. At a deeper level of analysis, one finds that Fabian's mode of thinking shows influence from the Zen notion of relativity of all things. Yet, I will argue that at the deepest layer of Fabian's thought, the mode of thinking of that plays the decisive role belongs to Cheng-Zhu school.
