Abstract

The construction project of Kyoto Station was a complex and large-scale project. The significant features of the project are three. First is to have adopted international design competition for the selection of the architect. Second is to have adopted the proposal system tor the selection of the general contractor. The third is to have been designated Kyoto Station project as one of the Major Projects Arrangement in U.S.-Japan Construction Cooperation Forum. Moreover, Kyoto Station project was completed without so much change orders of the design, and without the occurrence of overrun of the project schedule and the project cost. Why were those feasible? How were design and construction managed, and was the decision making done? In this paper, the author discusses these points about Kyoto Station project.
