数学史研究を活発にするには (数学史の研究)

Abstract

The RIMS Joint Researches "Study of the History of Mathematics" was held at the Research Institute for Mathematical Science, Kyoto University from September 2 to 4, 2019. On the afternoon of the final day of the research meeting, we held the open discussion on "How to Activate Study of the History of Mathematics in Japan" as one of the program. The theme of the discussion was proposed by Naoki Osada, the representative of the research meeting. His intention was to share with researchers who participated to this meeting the difficult situation surrounding study of the history of mathematics in Japan, and to seek the following measures as one of the solution. 1. How to activate study of the history of mathematics 2. What is the study on the history of mathematics that is attractive to young researchers? At the beginning of the open discussion, Tatsuhiko Kobayashi who is author of this essay delivered a keynote report to participants on the current situation of study of the history of mathematics in Japan, with the suggestion of N. Osada. This essay summarized his keynote repot.
