In recent years, narrative explanation has been a focus of attention within philosophy of science. Roth (2020) makes some important contributions to this topic, but his argument has some problems. This paper examines and modifies his claim. Roth claims that narrative explanation is a distinctive kind of explanation. This claim is based on two theses: nonstandardization thesis and nondetachability thesis. These theses make intelligible an important feature of narratives; that is, descriptions of events in narratives are dependent on narratives as a whole which show a beginning-middle-end structure. However, these theses have some serious problems. This paper modifies these theses and suggests a better way to understand the important features of narratives.en
