抄録: Mental phaenomena are essentially characterized by their intentionality, which implies ‘meaning’; and ‘meaning’ is necessarily associated with communication. Now there are found two directions in which communication is realized. 1) Communication between the subject and the object. --Knowledge is possible only because the subject and the object, though discrete in themselves, have some sort of communication between them; and what enables this communication is 'meaning’. Kant's epistemology is devoid of the treatment of 'meaning'. 2) Communication between man and man.--In the language, which is the means of communication, what makes this communication possible is the communicability of ‘meanig'. What then is communication? It is the passage made possible between the two, which are completely apart and discrete, as between the subject and the object or between man and man. This can not take place in the realm of mere matter, where the only possible passage is of the material continual sort, which we may call communization. With the distinction of communication from communization as an approach, the article purports to make out what the communicability of 'meaning' is, and still further, what this ‘meaning’ itself is.
