Abstract

Historical event can be a decisive turning point in history of thought. In Christian thought, Auschwitz and Hiroshima have often been positioned as such. Events of 3・11 (East Japan great earthquake and Fukushima nuclear power plant accident) will be events to be memorized in the same meaning. Here is the reason to make a question “after Fukushima”. The passage of the eight years is enough to arrange the trends of Christian thought after “Fukushima” and to view the issues. While paying attention to this point, to discuss the possibility of Christian thought “after Fukushima” is the subject of this paper. The discussion will proceed as follows. First of all, we outline the trends of Christian thought after 3・11, and then we will take out two things: how to read the Bible and how to capture this historical event as Christian thought. We will examine each of them in detail. From these considerations, it is indicated that we must establish a philosophical and theological basis that enables long-term efforts on nuclear power, and rebuild “theology of science and technology” which remained inadequate after the modern period.
