Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to find out a pass schedule in the finishing process whereby the energy consumption may be reduced to a minimum, and also to examine the possibility of its application to actual operation. From an analytical examination, such pass schedules where the reduction ratio is equally distributed at each mill have been found to be very effective for saving energy in the rolling process. On the other hand, the pass schedule brings an acute rise both in the rolling power and the rolling force from the earlier stage to the later stage. This tendency becomes remarkable when decreasing the final thickness. However, by applying lubricants to the mill where the rolling power and the rolling force have an extremely high value, the distribution of both among the finishers has been clarified to be flat.
