Abstract

Many previous studies have interpreted the reasons for the mother's divorce in terms of the symbolic meaning of the “lederhosen”, which ultimately leads to the conclusion that “Lederhosen” is a story of a mother's independence. But this is not what the novel mapped. The words “lederhosen” and “short trouser” are two key words frequently used in the novel. If we examine the principles of dressmaking in the century-old shop and the mother's shopping process, we will find that “lederhosen” represents singularity. The mother was previously unconscious of singularity and had always dealt with it in terms of particularity. However, during the shopping process she became aware of the problem of singularity, which led to the mother's divorce.
