新村猛と『世界文化』 --1930年代京都のフランス的文脈を踏まえて--

Abstract

仏文学者である新村猛は，戦後創立された京都人文学園の理念や教育方針の練り上げに重要な役割を演じた。新村は1930年代に反戦・反ファシズム運動を展開した『世界文化』グループの中心人物であり，この活動のなかで培われた信念と人脈が人文学園の基盤を準備した。京都で発行された『世界文化』(1935年2月〜1937年10月，全34号)は合法紙として海外事情の「紹介」というかたちで，人民戦線的な文化運動を展開した。1930年代における集団的・組織的な文筆による抵抗運動として，政治，文化，ジャーナリズムなどの各方面において高く評価され，敗戦直後に盛り上がりを見せた教育文化運動，とりわけ京都人文学園の胚胎として注目されている。新村の思想形成にフランスの知識人が与えた影響や，『世界文化』におけるフランスの重要性については，すでに先行研究によって明らかにされているが，本稿は，こうした新村とフランスの結びつきや『世界文化』におけるフランスの表象を1930年代の京都という文脈のなかで再考するものである。新村が通った京都帝国大学文学部仏文科や大学の隣に位置した，フランス政府公認の文化・教育機関である関西日仏学館は，東京とは異なる背景のなかで，京都独自のフランス・アカデミズムのネットワークを形成していた。本稿では，これらの機関の授業や文化事業と比較することで，『世界文化』の意義に新たな角度から光を当てる。

Takeshi Shinmura, a scholar of French literature, played an important role in developing the philosophy and educational policies of the Kyoto Jinbun Gakuen, which was founded after the war. Shinmura was a central figure in the magazine Sekai-Bunka that developed the anti-war and anti-fascist movement in the 1930s, and the beliefs and personal connections he developed through these activities prepared the foundation for the Jinbun Gakuen. The influence of French intellectuals on the formation of Shinmuraʼs thought and the importance of France in Sekai-Bunka have already been clarified in previous studies, but this paper aims to reconsider these ties between Shinmura and France and the representation of France in Sekai-Bunka in the context of Kyoto in the 1930s. The French Literature Department of Kyoto Imperial University, which Shinmura attended, and the Institut franco-japonais du Kansai, a French cultural and educational institution located next to the university, formed a unique network of French academism in Kyoto. This paper sheds new light on the significance of Sekai-Bunka by comparing it with the classes and cultural programs of these institutions.
