Abstract

『文苑英華』の「表」の選文は，一方では唐代に編まれた各種の総集から一部の文章を選択すると同時に，事前に選定された範囲の限られた別集から，ほぼ選別せずに文章を取り入れ，それを予め確定された門類に収めるという原則に従っていたことになる．この過程において，同時に入選可能な文章が多すぎる場合，「作家順位制」という選別方法が採用されていた．「状」と「啓」の編纂原則は，基本的には「表」と同様であったが，いくつかの違いも存在した．「状」では各別集からわずかな文章のみが選択されていたことなどが，その例である．「啓」は選択範囲に入る別集のほとんどの作品を収める一方で，作品が多すぎる作家(柳宗元など)に対しては，文集の当該部分の前半の文章のみを選び，内容に基づく選別は行われなかったのである．

The selection of texts for the “Biao” section of the Wenyuan yinghua followed the principle of selecting some texts from various anthologies compiled during the Tang Dynasty, while simultaneously incorporating texts from a limited selection of collection without much discrimination, according to predetermined categories. In cases where there were too many eligible texts, a selection method known as the “author ranking system” was employed. The compilation principles for the “Zhuang” and “Qi” sections were essentially similar to those for the “Biao”, but there were some differences. For instance, in the “Zhuang” section, only a few texts were chosen from each collection. In the “Qi” section, while almost all works from the chosen collection were included, for prolific authors such as Liu Zongyuan, only the first half of texts from the relevant section of the collection were chosen, without content-based selection.
