メトニミーとしての構文交替: 動詞と構文の意味の相互調整

Abstract

本稿では壁塗り交替に代表されるような格体制の交替現象をドメインの焦点化として分析し、これが広義のメトニミーに属することを主張する。「塗る」や「片付ける」などの構文交替を起こす動詞はその意味構造に状態変化ドメインと移動ドメインが関わっており、そのいずれかが構文（格パターン）の意味との相互調整を経て焦点化される。これには作者で作品を表す表すメトニミーと同様の原理が働いている。また本稿ではこうした相互調整のプロセスを論じるために、構文交替に関わる動詞、格パターンの意味構造についても認知言語学的な意味観に基づいて考察する。

This paper analyzes alternation phenomena, such as locative alternation, from the perspective of domain highlighting and argues that they fall under the category of metonymy in a broad sense. Japanese alternating verbs such as nuru (to paint) or katazukeru (to tidy up) involve both the domain of change of state and the domain of motion, with either domain being highlighted through accommodation with the meaning of the construction (case pattern). This process is similar to the principle underlying metonymy, such as AUTHOR FOR WORKS. In order to discuss this mutual accommodation process, this paper examines the semantic structures of verbs and case patterns involved in alternations from the perspective of cognitive linguistics.
