抄録: | Nursing education is increasingly included within traditional college education, but there is as yet no consensus as to how midwifery education should be incorporated within the present system of nursing education. In order to understand the present state of midwifery education and gain perspectives on its future, a survey was carried out among students takes midwifery courses as well as instructors teaching such courses at 3 colleges providing midwifery education as an elective subject (St. Luke's College of Nursing, Chiba University and Ryukyu University). A questionnaire was mailed to individual subjects and subsequently collected. A total of 14 students took midwifery courses in the relevant year, and 12 responded to the questionnaire. Of students applying to take these courses, 20% were accepted. The most frequent motive for taking the courses was "to obtain qualification" followed by "interested in midwifery" and "learn more about nursing." As for the necessary effort involved, more than half the respondents answered that they could "do it with much difficulty." We hoped to re-evaluate the manner in which midwifery education is provided on the basis of these survey results. |
