Abstract

1. A 56-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital with the chief complaint of persistent cough of nine months' duration. Chest x-ray film revealed no abnormality. Review of her history revealed that she had had an attack of severe cough while eating fishes nine months prior to the admission. Rigid bonchoscopy was performed for suspected intrabronchial foreigh body, and a fish bone was removed from the right lower lobe bronchus. She had an uneventful postscopic course. 2. A 20-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with the complaint of accidental aspiration of a reamer while receiving treatment of his dental caries two days prior to the admission. He had no symptom, whilst chest roentgenogram revealed a piece of reamer in the bottom of right lung field. Fortunately the reamer was removed easily by biopsy forceps through a Metras' sonde with no sequela. 3. A metal staple was found in the right middle stem bronchus by a routine chest roentgenogram of 56-year-old healthy man. Review of his history revealed that he had a episode of recurrent slight cough after an attack of cough which occured when he was doing work of nailing holding staples in his mouth. Due to his refusal the removal was postponed nutil seven months later, when he complained of severe cough attack and chest x-ray showed that the staple moved into left main bronchus close to the orifice of upper lobe bronchus. Rigid bronchoscopy was performed under fluoroscopy, and the staple was removed without any postscopic event.
