Abstract

In this article, in order to clarify methods for grasping the historical meaning of agricultural development in modern Japan, I take up and investigate some representative books in which the authors study about agricultural development process in modern Japan. I investigate from the viewpoint of the peasantry who sustained agricultural development in modern Japan. Therefore, from the viewpoint of the analyses of development process of farming carried by the peasantry and then from the viewpoint of the analyses of the whole of agricultural development process in modern Japan, I examine what results the authors have obtained and what problems they have left. As the result, I indicate that studies of farming history are inevitable for the study of the Differentiation of the Peasantry and development process of the Landownership. In this article I investigate Eitaro Noro, Moritaro Yamada, Hakuju Kurihara, Tsutomu Oouchi, Takeo Wataya, Shuuzou Teruoka, Masanori Nakamura, Keiji Ushiyama and Satoru Nakamura's books.
