Abstract

In this paper I give an outline of agricultural history and discuss the relation between human beings and nature such as animals or plants. Human beings have established various relations with animals and plants, which can be categorized into three types: (1) the mutual beneficial relation with domestic (domesticated) animals and the crops; (2) the competition with or exclusion of harmful animals and plants; (3) coexistence with other animals and plants baced on habitat segregation. All of these relations, however, face crises as the global environmental problems have become worse. In order to tackle this issue I bring up a new concept "formative balance".
