抄録: This paper firstly sets down some frames for viewing the wine industry based on its current status in California where it has shown remarkable growth. On that basis, it systematically derives some targets and topics for wine industry research in terms of agricultural economics and farm management. It then sets down some guidelines for developing future research in this area. In this paper, the following ten themes are presented in detail. 1) Commodity and consumption regarding wine, and the background culture, history, and technology which has helped to form those characteristics. 2) Industry organization concerning wine grape and wine production. 3) Vineyard and winery management, and their relation to agricultural development. 4) Custom crush and custom crush option, their influence on the wine industry, and development of such forms of individual management. 5) The role and the positioning of university, the effect of university extension programs and research institutes on the wine industry. 6) Wine marketing and trade and their influence on wine industry. 7) Sensory evaluation for wine and its influence on the wine industry. 8) Laws and regulations concerning production, marketing, and consumption of wine and their influence on the wine industry. 9) Rural development and the wine industry. 10) Land use planning, environmental problems, and the wine industry.
