タイの農林水産業・食品産業と経済発展政策の関係に関する一考察

Abstract

Food processing industry plays important roles that influence income distribution and economic efficiency at certain stages of economic development of developing countries. This paper tries to describe these roles, their results, and the factors determining these roles in the economic development of Thailand during and after the 1997 economic crisis. In so doing, I paid a special attention to the current Prime Minister's Dual-Track Development Strategy (DTDS) and its relationship to the Thai food processing industry. In the strategy, agriculture and rural sector as well as small and medium size industries were focused for their development and income growth and at the same time capital intensive sectors and financial sectors were also salvaged from the damages they suffered in the 1997 economic crisis utilizing international cooperation and domestic economic measures. This strategy emphasizes traditional domestic economy and traditional Thai knowledge and skill based on which Thai economy can compete in the international market and can grow, and seek ways to influence the prices of goods and services at which Thailand can export these.
