The Ugbo Novel and the Literacy Communication of Igbo Culture

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the literary communication of Igbo culture by the Igbo novel in Nigeria. I examine the linguistic and paralinguistic features of the novels written by Igbo novelists about the Igbo people and their culture. In the course of discussion, I trace briefly the origin, development and general stylistic features of the Igbo novel. I then proceed to textually analyse a good number of the novels that make up the Igbo novel, as a way of eliciting the faults in them that make literary communication difficult. It is infered from this study that the language of the Igbo novel needs to be improved.
