Abstract: There are man-made and natural constraints on the implementation of a self-reliant and strong foreign policy for Nigeria. The country's economic crisis which resulted from the dependent nature of the economy has adversely affected her external economic relations. In spite of efforts at stimulating a self-reliant economic policy, Nigeria's economy is still strongly affected by the vagaries of the world capitalist system. Again, national disagreement on diplomacy due to conflicting interests among the regions and bureaucrats that make up the Nigerian state undermines the diplomatic policy of the country.
