抄録: A breakwater plan for prevention of storm-surge damage has been proposed at NagoyaHarbor. And the reclamation works within the breakwater are now under construction.In order to investigate the behavior of the tidal currents at the harbor after construc-tion of the breakwater, a preliminary experiment was made by the use of a hydraulic model.The entire Nagoya Harbor and an adjacent portion of Iso-Bay was reproduced in the modelwith fixed-bed, the horizontal scale of which is 1/2000 and the vertical one is 1 667. Semi-diurnal tides and tidal currents were reproduced by a tide generator of plunger-type.After these experiments it was clarified that : -(1) Before construction of the breakwater, that is. In the present state, in the easternpart of the passage, the direction of the tidal currents is clockwise and the tidal loci areof very flat ellipses parallel to the passage. On the other hand, in the western part, thedirection is counter-clockwise and the loci are of rather round ellipses.(2) After construction, the tidal currents are generally reduced, and the tidal loci arecomplex and not closed after each tidal period. In the downstream part of the opening ofthe breakwater, there take place large eddies.
