Abstract

This paper deals with the response analysis of a tall building structure, which is designedaccording to Japanese aseismic code, subjected to an intense earthquake. The structureis simulated into five or seven mass-spring system. The spring has the restoring character-istics of a bi-Iinear hysteretic type. The responses are computed by an electronic analogcomputer and the following conclusions are obtained: a whipping effect occurs, causing themajnr yield to be at the top. The maximum relative displacement is at most three times ofthe elastic limit when a little viscous damping are introduced to the system.
