dc.description.abstractThis is a preliminary report on the shearing tests of remolded, saturated and nomallyconsolidated clay under the plane strain condition. Preceding shearing, specimens wereconsolidated under hydrostatic pressure or Ku-pressure, (the condition under which axialpressure is kept constant and lateral pressure is controlled so that lateral strain doesnot occur). Plane strain condition during shearing was made by controlling intermediate principal stress which is applid on two parallel sides of specimen through rubbermembrane cushion.Failure point is defined by maximum octohedral stress ratio (ro~t/a-m'), and it wasobtaind that shear strength of plane strain specimens are larger than triaxial compressin-nspecimens by 10% or so. Definite conclusions have not obtaind on the characteriticsof dilatancy yet.en
