dc.description.abstractIn the first report, the experimental results on the horizontal and vertical distributionsof maximum wave pressure acting on the arch gate were presented and discussed. Con-sequently, it is concluded that the mechanism of water surface oscillation in front of thearch gate has to be understood to solve the wave pressure acting on it. With this in view, the experiments on water surface oscillation in front of the gate are carried out for bothuniform and short crested waves.In this paper, mainly, the relations between characteristics of the water surface oscil-lation in front of the gate and these of incident waves are described based on the experi-mental results. The theoretical solution of water surface oscillation, however, has notbeen obtained yet. As to the wave pressure, horizontal and vertical distributions of themaximum wave pressure are shown for both uniform and short crested waves.en
