抄録: The purpose of this paper is to discover the mechanism of sediment transport in astream with the aid of an approach of stochastic models. The irregular and intermittentmovement of sediment is expressed with a stochastic model, and its stochastic character-istics of sediment transport mechanics are made clear by the experimental investigationsusing colored sand as tracers. It was concluded from the result of experiment that thestochastic model proposed can well explain the bed-load movement of sand. It was madeclear, for example, that the distribution of traveling distance of a single step is expressedby an exponential distribution and this fact is in good agreement with the experimentalresults. The relations between the average traveling distance of a single step and theprobability of beginning sand movement per second, and the flow intensity are discussedby some knowledges of sediment transport. Moreover, an equation to estimate the bed-load discharge with tracers is proposed for a regime of flat bed.
