dc.description.abstractAs a first step to clarify the wave forces on large cylindrical piles, some experiments on thecharacteristics of vertical and horizontal distribution of wave pressure and variation of water levelalong the piles were carried out.Compared between the theoreticel curves of them computed from the diffraction wave theoryand experimental results including the results of other researchers, it was concluded that this theorypredicts relatively well the experimental results at phase of wave crest for wave pressure in the caseof large value of h/H0 except for small deviation from them where Is is the water depth and Ho isthe incident wave height, but that the correspondence for wave pressure at phase of wave troughand variation of water level is poor.en
