dc.description.abstractUsing the flow similarity which is known as the Reynolds number similarity, the Eulerianproperties of turbulence in a free surface shear flow will be first concerned in terms of a universalfunction expressed with the flow depth, the shear velocity and the local mean velocity.Explicit functions for two kinds of basic properties of turbulence are able to determine thefunctional forms of other turbulent properties in a system of universal functions. The selection ofthe best system is examined by the Eulerian data of turbulence in open channel flows, such as theturbulence intensity, the integral scale and the ratio of turbulent energy dissipation per unit massand time.It will be concluded that the friction coefficient may be treated as an important factor ofturbulent shear flow, similarly with the velocity defect law.en
