In order to protect our towns and cities from the fire caused by the earthquakes, it is necessaryto study on the outbreak of fires. We obtained many data on the outbreak of fires and the damageof dwelling houses caused by the earthquakes since "Kanto-dai-shinsai" in 1923. The relation-ship between the ratio of the outbreak of fires and that of totally destroyed dwelling houses, theseason and the time when earthquakes occurred are obtained as the regression formula. Thenumbers of the outbreak of fires predicted by this formula are compared with that predicted byanother method used up to this time.en
