dc.description.abstractEarthquake motions were observed at a rock site and a ground site in the eastern part of Kyotobasin. Soil deposits above the base rock dip from east to west.Amplification characteristics estimated through comparison of spectra of S waves' part ofthe ground motions with those of the rock motions are different depending on the directions ofseismic arrivals.A ray procedure for the calculation of the response of ground layers of a plane SH waveincident at the dipping base are introduced. The variation of peak frequencies in amplificationfactors with the direction of seismic arrivals is found to be caused by the ground structure withdipping deposits from comparison between the calculated values and the observed ones.en
