dc.description.abstractThe coupled vibration between two cylindrical structures embedded in visco-elastic soil layersof infinite horizontal extent has been studied, as the three-dimensional problem. It is assumed thatthe model of soil-structures has been subdivided by several horizontal planes. The formulationhas been obtained by making use of the closed-form solution, based on the exact displacementfunctions in the horizontal direction, and the finite element method in the vertical direction. Thechoice of the cylindrical coordinate system, suitable for analysis of the coupling between two struc-tures with circular cross section has led to the exact infinite series solution.The numerical results for steady-state vibrations are shown graphically, and the effects of thecoupling on the vibrational characteristics have been discussed.en
