dc.description.abstractBoth the vibrational characteristics and the earthquake responses of a cross-interactionsystem between two building structures embedded in a visco-elastic soil stratum areinvestigated in this paper. First, the steady-state coupled responses of two building struc-tures which consist of a lumped mass and embedded cylindrical basement are presented bymaking use of the Finite Element Method. Next, the transient coupled responses of twobuilding structures are calculated by using the Fast Fourier Transform techniques. Theeffects of cross-interaction on the earthquake responses are discussed for various parametersassociated with depth of basement, separation distance and natural frequency of lumpedmass system.en
