dc.description.abstractSeismic refraction exploration was carried out across a posturated fault near Obaku, UjiCity, Kyoto Prefecture by a procedure employing a land-type air gun and signal-enhancementtechnique by stacking. An abrupt change in substratum P-wave velocity from 1.6 km/s in theplain side to 2.7 km/s in the mountain side was detected at the fault. The depth of the 2.7 km/slayer is about 20 to 30 m below the ground surface and is smaller than the depth 50 m determinedin a former study which has been correlated with the paleozoic bedrock with velocity 4.4 km/s.The present substratum with velocity 2.7 km/s in the mountain side is supposed to be a high-velocityinterbedded layer belonging to diluvium and to be cut by the Obaku fault.en
