Abstract: Life cycle of Typhoon 8013 (ORCHID) was analyzed using the infrared brightness data ofthe Geostationary Meteorological Satellite (OMS). This typhoon first appeared as a tropicaldepression near the Caroline Islands Sept. 4, 1980, developed to typhoon intensity a week laternear Okinawa and landed on the southern end of the Kyushu Island. Changes in cloud system areseen prior to the changes in the intensity of the typhoon. The typhoon has shown rapid develop-ment soon after a small dip was seen in the center of a cloud dome top, which means that thetyphoon has changed from one-cell vortex to two-cell vortex. Weakening of the typhoon wasalso seen on the cloud pattern a little before the central pressure increased.
