The paper describes the results of a series of experimental studies on delayed consolidationof clay. The mechanism of change in states during delayed consolidation is made clear, byconsidering the restrictive conditions in terms of stress and strain for K0-secondary compression. The proposed theory has been confirmed by the long-term consolidation test for Kaolin. Underrelatively low axial load, there occurs a tendency of stress overshooting of the precompressionpressure at the loading on such a soil, which is known as the pc-effect. The consolidated-undrained strength of aged clay has also been discussed based on the test results.en
