dc.description.abstractSelf-potential (s.p.) distribution in and around the underground observation tunnel situatedin the fractured zone of the Yamasaki active fault was surveyed in order to investigate the mecha-nism of the anomalous change of the s.p. observed preceding the remarkable earthquake (M=5.6)occurred near-by on May 30, 1984.It was elucidated from the results of the survey and the observation that the decrease ofthe electric potential of the fractured zone -decrease of the electric potential of the surface ofthe fractured rock contacted with the concrete wall- will probably be the cause of the anomalouschange of the s.p..The result of the observation of the s.p. during the year of 1984 is also summarized briefly.en
