Abstract: The huge waves which are generated by monsoons and typhoons strongly depend onthe boundary conditions as well as the wind field of interest. Of particular importance isthe stochastic property of wind duration. It is the most important factor in clarifyingthe generation mechanism of the huge wave. In this paper, the numerical study of thehuge waves is performed for the meteorological conditions described above. First, the hugewaves which are generated by the monsoon are discussed with fetch and duration-limitedconditions, then, the methodology of the simulation of typhoon conditions are considered.The typhoon model simulation results indicate that the effect of wind duration plays a keyrole in huge wave generation, and, if this duration is extremaly long the huge wave islikely to occur.
