dc.description.abstractWhen assessing the overall safety of a city in time of earthquake, a most important factoris to accurately estimate the earthquake hazards of buildings in the urban area. In previousstudy, we have used a simulation analysis to obtain the earthquake response characteristicsof traditional wooden houses. In this study, we successively used a simulation analysis forlow-rise reinforced concrete (RC) structures as a first step in establishing a seismic hazardestimation method for various types of structures. Simple formulae, based on our results, were developed to obtain the maximum response of low-rise RC buildings. We used theseformulae in a study of the city of Kyoto undergoing a hypothetical earthquake.en
