白浜海洋観測塔とその周辺の海象変動について

Abstract

A brief report is presented on observations of oceanographic variations at andaround the Shirahama Oceanographic Tower as an offshore fixed station in thecoastal zone of the Pacific. A definition of the term "anomarous tides" is definedfirst. Successively, a trend of the annual mean sea level is discussed to knowwhether seismic threat appears as lowering of the sea level. The monthly mean ofthe observed factors at the tower shows an annual regular variation of wind, atmospheric and water temperature, or sea level. Difference between the water andatmospheric temperatures shows that seasonal variations of possible evaporation onthe sea surface and instability of stratification above the sea. As factors for helpingto study causes of hazardous events, recorded solar radiation, evaporation andprecipitation are also considered to know their trends. A strong wind in May isalso described. Wave climate at the station is introduced to know the properties ofwind waves and swells. Lastly, a remark is given about an evaluation of theobservations at the offshore fixed tower station.
