Abstract: The synthetic observation of atmospheric boundary layer was carried out in the Lake Biwa Project from 23th to 30th October in 1995. The vertical profiles of atmospheric variables (air temperature, humidity) and their daily variations were observed in three ways - mooring balloon, airship, and radio sonde. Especially, the use of the airship in the atmospheric boundary layer observation was the first attempt in the world.Comparing the airship observation with existing observation, it can be said that the airship has much advantage in the observation of atmosphere especially for the temperature field.Three dimensional LCM-SiBUC coupled model was applied to this study area By making use of the observation data as initial conditions, some numerical simulations were carried out for the cloudy and sunny weather conditions. The predicted evolutions of atmospheric boundary layer correspond to the observation results.
